Persist after setbacks

Once we have experienced a setback we have to let go of what has happened in order to move forward — we have to expire the old stuff and persist. When with clients I will often identify the setbacks of their past — ones that have become repeated stories. The setback has stayed with them and they find it hard to move on. Being aware of the old stories and making a decision to stay out of drama, is critical to success. Success is ultimately an inside game. Managing setbacks is predominately about what happens on the inside! Eckhart Tolle in The Power of Now says: The sooner you realise that your outer purpose cannot give you lasting fulfilment, the better. When you have seen the limitations of your outer purpose, you give up your unrealistic expectation that it should make you happy, and you make it subservient to your inner purpose. Persistence is the key to success and managing setbacks. Being persistent influences the direction of our lives and keeps us in alignment with our values. There are millions of small steps on life’s journey. Some of these steps don’t go according to plan but they are all part…

Undress ambition

Not everyone feels comfortable declaring his or her success or ambitions. But declaring ambition is a key factor in overcoming blocks to success. And when you are in the business of solving others’ problems and making their lives better a declaration is a perfect way to amplify your intentions, get known and fast track success. Money isn’t everything. But money goes a long way in helping to live a full and rich life and provides opportunities to be generous to others. Doing purposeful work often brings an abundance of commercial success. In 2012 I made the decision to become a thought leader, to run my own thought leaders practice and to create intellectual property that would solve other people’s challenges in business and in life. And there was no way I was going to keep this vision a secret as I had done previously! What I had learnt in previous years — when I hadn’t declared my vision — was that I have to state my intention clearly and make sure that I don’t waste precious energy and time by not undressing my ambition. Before I declared what my new path would be and knowing that there were big challenges ahead, I made these…

Take courageous action

De-cluttering is a key productivity tool but it’s also an essential life fulfillment tool. Decide what clutter needs to be removed and see the unpolluted path ahead. Without this clean living the navigation of obstacles will potentially draw on time and energy – two precious resources. Successful people de-clutter emotionally, psychologically and physically – regularly. It’s time to pave the way to success by spring-cleaning your life. When heading in a valued direction clear the passageway to your destination. Like a pregnant woman who knows the baby is coming she gets to work and spring-cleans the house, we too need to get to work and go through every area of life and get sorted! In order to move forward ensure the environment is right. Getting really organised is paramount. When there is an obstacle in the way, you have to go around it, climb over it, go under it or move it — all productivity suckers. Clear the barriers to success and fulfillment. Identify the physical, mental and emotional clutter and remove it once and for all. Write the list. But make sure you finish cleaning up one mess before you start on another as sometimes the act of cleaning up has…

A clear vision

Planning is important – essential to move us from Point A to Point B. A problem occurs when we make plans, decide what we want but never get to our destination. So what’s the secret? The secret is traction — traction is the key to getting to Point B. And the way to get traction is to have a clear vision. A clear vision keeps you focused on your destination — gaining momentum all the way. We still doubt at times that we are on the right path however the trick is not to let this doubt reduce your traction. When I left my 12-year career in real estate in 2011, I put my head down and did the work needed to establish my new career as a leader in transformation. On this new path I did question if the direction I was going in was the right one. The road seems longer when it’s untravelled and that can make it hard to find traction. I focused on gaining momentum quickly so that self-doubt wouldn’t paralyse me. And I appointed the best True Believers tribe to guide and support me. When we have a clear vision of what the road ahead will look like…
